For my midterm project, I wanted to re-create Wassily Kandinsky's paintings into an instrument (Sound) piece. Wassily Kandinsky is believed to have had synesthesia that he had an ability to hear sounds through colors. He wanted to evoke sounds through sight and therefore he created his abstract and colorful paintings. So I wanted to imagine how having synesthesia feels like and want to make his painting into a sound.
So I created this piece that starts as 2d looking, but once the user start to press the object it will move / rotate and create sounds. While I was working on this project I faced a few challenges, such as giving them a different depth but at the same time evoking 2d flat looking. And I tried to give each object different mesh and physics, but it was too much and some of mesh didn't work. So I had to leave some of the object not movable. Another struggle was to create a brush stroke / or an oil painting effect material. However I thought that it wasn't really necessary to evoke Kandinsky feeling so I just kept it with solid colors.
